God is bigger than NYC
I just returned last night from leading a young adult Christian conference called onething (Psalm 27:4) in NYC. I know this may be crazy for some of you to hear…but this was actually my first time to Manhattan and Times Square. I’ve seen NYC from the sky many times while traveling but never made it out of the airport. Well not this time! Our conference was in Queens and Saturday night after our last session some of our hosts surprised our team and arranged a limo to take us all downtown for pizza. No this is not a normal occurrence for our weekend conferences
but we gladly received the surprise!
As we walked block after block I began to feel God’s burden and desire for the people that He created. There are so many people, so many people completely lost and clueless that God is alive and that He is Jesus. And most importantly, that He wants them. The overwhelming presence of sin, brokenness, drunkenness, immorality and the absence of the tangible presence of God silenced me. I watched, walked slowly and began to wander how all of this could be transformed, be redeemed, be saved from the coming judgment.
The Lord said to me He’s bigger. He sees. He’s aware. He has friends in this city, actually all over the city. They’re living in righteousness, crying out for His kingdom to come and for His Son to be exalted within the streets, businesses and homes of NYC. They are standing with Him and contending.
As I sensed the Lord’s great zeal for NYC I was filled with faith. Faith not in our human efforts but in the transforming power of God. If He can speak a 1/2 sentence and create the known Cosmos which is 13 billion light-years wide in spans…He can transform a city with a only 20 million people. That is effortless for God.
It is so noble to stand with God in prayer and ask for what is on His heart to be made known. He desires the exaltation of His Son. He burns with passion for this reality. He desires for the people of the earth to know and receive His love. Will you stand with Him? Will there be a church in the cities of the earth that stand with God in prayer to release His desire within their city? Will there be a company of believers in your city gathered to seek, gathered to knock and to ask for God to move in great power?
God raise up your church to truly be a house of prayer and burn for that which is on Your heart.
Isaiah 56:7
