Greatest Sermon Ever
I just returned from Edmonton, Alberta Canada where I was speaking at a conference that the House of Prayer Edmonton (HOPE) hosted. We had a wonderful conference and enjoyed the people so much. Justin Rizzo, one of the worship leaders here at the House of Prayer in KC went with me. We worked hard and were blessed to witness the presence of the Lord’s Spirit among us.
I spoke two sessions on one of Jesus’ sermons, the Sermon on the Mount. In my opinion this was His key-note message that He preached continually in every region He ministered in. Some call this sermon the “Constitution of the Kingdom of God”. Jesus defines true spiritual maturity and what godliness looks like in this message. The sermon is beyond provoking and in my opinion the most powerful sermon ever.
Jesus says that the way to achieve greatness in God’s sight is by receiving this sermon, placing high value on it and then doing it or modeling it in your lifestyle. This, He says, is the true definition of greatness and spiritual impact. This lifestyle is not equated as greatness in the world in which we now live. Even in some of the church it’s not esteemed. Yet it is to be our guide, our litmus test of greatness; our “test” of spiritual maturity.
Jesus says that if you receive this sermon and do it you will be like a person who built a house with much calculation and wisdom. Your house, or your life, will be strong and mighty in the Lord. Remember, it’s those that receive it as truth AND model the message with their lifestyle. This will place iron in your spirit. He says when the winds, rains and storms of life come you’ll be found strong and not fall.
The winds and rains can be positive or negative. Most of us only think of the negative circumstances that may hit our life but it’s also the times of great favor, publicity and honor that may come our way. Will we stay steady in light of the favor? Will we stay steady in the abundance of fame or wealth or will we be swept away? Jesus is clear. Those who embrace the weakness of the lifestyle found in the Sermon on the Mount will be mighty and great in their spirit and equipped to handle the “winds and rains.”
Why not us? Why not now? Let’s be a people who pursue greatness in God with all of our heart. He has called us. He will enable us. He is for us and will give His Spirit to those who ask for Him. Why not offer a generation behind us a clear model of great Christianity and radical devotion to Jesus.
Read and pray through the sermon yourself. Matthew 5-7 records it.
Be blessed,
Wes

Just the other day I was thinking about the old hymn, “All Hail The Power of Jesus’ Name”. I googled it and on wikipedia found this story about the man who wrote the song (Edward Perronet):
“Though considered a capable preacher, Perronet was uneasy about doing so in front of John Wesley, despite Wesley’s persistent urging. After wearying of his requests, Wesley simply announced one day that Brother Perronet would speak. Edward cleverly managed to escape Wesley’s intention by mounting the pulpit, declaring he would deliver the greatest sermon ever preached, and proceeding to read Christ’s “Sermon on the Mount”; after which, he immediately sat down.”
Seems like you’re in good company in referring to the SOTM as the greatest sermon ever preached. Hahahaha.
Please send me the notes you were telling us about at the above Awake conference. The notes on the sermon on the Mount. Bought ‘The Call to Greatnes’ there are the notes you refer to; in the teaching and said at the conference we could get them! Thanks-you very much
Being enjoying the teaching, I just keep repeating the first 17min…
